Doug has been practicing yoga or some form of movement art since he was a kid. He grew up with yoga, tai chi, drumming and dance all around. His gymnastic coach utilized yoga techniques to assist with meets. It was in 1988 that he took his first yoga class at San Francisco State University and was amazed at how great it made him feel. The seeds that had been planted earlier in life started to sprout and in 1999 while in New Zealand Doug chose to commit to a yoga practice and cultivate a yogic lifestyle. Unsure what this meant or how to make this happen he sought out teachers who guided him in the development of a his practice.

Immersions, teacher trainings and workshops lead to a growing love and commitment to the yoga practice. Doug
started teaching yoga on the recommendation of his first master teacher Carol Merrylees. He found that the teaching of yoga is a practice that is as special and sacred as one’s personal practice. Doug is now a Certified Yoga Teacher and is registered at the E-500 Level with Yoga Alliance.

He has studied with Sarah Powers, Ganga White, Tracy Rich, Tias Little, PaulGrilley, Baron Baptiste and Erika Faith Hattingh. He has been inspired by the practice and teachings of Shiva Rea, Ana Forrest, Eoin Finn, Scott Blossom and Donna Farhi.

His interest in Tantric philosophy, Buddhism, Earth Based Traditions and Eastern Healing Arts are reflected in his teachings. His teaching style draws upon his intent to connect each student to their unique inner wisdom, their breath and their ability to be radiantly aware.
Doug and his wife Angela opened Green Tara Yoga in May of 2006. Doug is the director of the Green Tara Yoga School which offers teacher training programs in Hatha Yoga.
